Not every document or piece of print media you want to archive will fit into a standard industrial scanner, particularly maps and charts. Whilst stitching together multiple scans of a large document in post-processing is possible, we believe the end result is better if the document is scanned whole.

At SDS Scanning Bureau we have large-sized, mechanically-driven scanners that are designed for just this purpose. They have special mechanisms that feed in the document as it scans. This ensures there are as few artefacts, such as creases and other such page distortions, as possible during digitisation.

Of course, this isn’t limited to maps, plans and charts. SDS Scanning Bureau can scan any kind of over-sized media too: posters or other marketing material, memorabilia, prints or other types of artwork. In fact, anything up to A0 (841 x 1189 mm or 33.1 x 46.8 inches) in size, or in lengths of up to ten metres.

Once scanned, images are post-processed, and where applicable, checked for any readable text to be indexed. Resultant files can be saved as JPEGs or PDFs (where indexing and searchable text is required), and supplied on CD/DVD, USB stick or online. For multiple documents, we can also provide a document management system and viewing software.
